Koigu Collector’s Club: Culture.

A new month has begun, and with it comes the next installment of the Koigu Collector’s Club! Each month, we’ll receive 21 skeins of KPPPM in a limited edition color dyed especially for a select group of local yarn stores that carry Koigu.

KPPPM is a fingering weight superwash merino, hand-dyed in vibrant colors by mother/daughter team Maie and Taiu Landra on their farm outside of Toronto, Canada.

August’s limited edition colorway, Culture, was inspired by the many uses of color in crafts around the world. As they write on the Koigu blog, “Colours across different cultures around the world are perceived very differently… we at Koigu find this very interesting and inspiring!”

Culture is a variegated colorway, a mix of wheat and golden yellow, with streaks and speckles of cobalt, rusty orange, and burgundy.

Koigu Collector’s Club: Raku.

We’re excited to announce that we’re participating in Koigu’s new club, the Koigu Collector’s Club! Each month, we’ll receive 21 skeins of KPPPM in a limited edition color dyed especially for local yarn stores that carry Koigu.

KPPPM is a fingering weight superwash merino, hand-dyed in vibrant colors by mother/daughter team Maie and Taiu Landra on their farm outside of Toronto, Canada. Each 50 gram skein has 170 yards, so 1 makes a pair of Churchmouse “Turkish Bed Socks,” 2 make an average pair of socks or “Barb’s Koigu Ruffle,” while 3 or 4 make a nice sized shawl, the likes of Martian Behm’s “Hitchhiker” or “Trillian.”

July’s limited edition colorway, Raku, was inspired by a pottery technique by the same name. It’s a colorful variegated colorway, a mix of light and dark blues with streaks of peach, lavender, sea green, and ivory. You can read more about Raku and the Koigu Collector’s Club on the Koigu blog!

Shibui Limited Edition Color: Petal.

Shibui has just released their first-ever Limited Edition Color, and we’re delighted to have it on our shelves now!

Petal is the shade, a bright pink that’s just right for the season.

Petal comes in nine of Shibui’s yarns: lace weight Lunar, Pebble, Cima, and Silk Cloud, fingering weight Reed and Staccato, sport weight Twig and Fern, and DK weight Rain.

With so many yarns, there are lots of ways to get a bit of Petal onto your needles; for an accessory, consider “Crete” in Twig and Lunar, “Oasis” in Fern, “Multigrain” in Silk Cloud, Cima, and Pebble, or “Torrent” in Rain, all of which are free when you buy the Shibui yarns to make them.

There’s also the brand new “Ossa,” a shawl designed specifically for Petal in Pebble and Silk Cloud.

Prince of Purple.

Last month, we were saddened by the death of Prince, a bold and innovative musician, songwriter, and producer whose work I respect so much. He has since been memorialized in many ways, and we were surprised and delighted to find one such tribute coming from the world of yarn: Dream in Color created a gradient set in shades of purple, Prince’s signature color. Anne put in a request for as many as we were allowed to order, just 12 for this limited edition run, and I’m happy to report that they’re here!

These Prince of Purple gradient sets are composed of ~1125 yards of Dream in Color Smooshy, a fingering weight superwash merino. Those ~1125 yards are divided into five 2 oz skeins, each one a successively darker shade of purple. There’s enough here for a generous shawl or two, or perhaps even a short-sleeved sweater. Consider Kirsten Kapur’s “Seastripes,” Olga Buraya-Kefelian’s “Aranami Shawl,” Melanie Berg’s “The Joker and the Thief,” Ambah O’Brien’s “Inara Wrap,” or Diana Walla’s “Vasa.” Some of these patterns call for just two colors, while others want six or more, but if you’re creative with your color placement, any of them could work with just these five. Or select a complementary shade in another fingering weight merino to frame them–a pale gray, perhaps, a wild yellow, or good old black.
