Order online from the Hillsborough Yarn Shop!
We’ve always been a brick and mortar yarn shop, believing in the importance of seeing and handling materials in person before purchasing. Though we’re now open for in-store shopping, we are still happy to take online orders!
How to Order?
Our blog and Instagram give a good sense of the yarns and other products we carry. If you’re unsure about a particular yarn color name or number, try checking the manufacturer’s website. We’re also happy to send photos, provide suggestions, and answer questions.
Expect a delay between placing your order and hearing back from us; we’ll have to manually check our inventory, prepare a Paypal invoice, and so on. Please read to the bottom of this page so that you are aware of policies that apply to online orders.
We know you have a lot of choices when it comes to shopping for yarn and supplies, and we especially appreciate your support of our shop. Thank you so much for your order!

Local Pickup
We’ll send you an email when your order is complete and ready for pickup; at that time, you can come by the shop anytime between 11:00 am – 5:30 pm, Tuesdays – Saturdays. Call (919) 732-2128 when you get here, and we’ll bring your package out to you at either the front or back door.
Shipping Costs
We ship anywhere in the US via USPS Priority Mail. Shipping will be either $8 or $15, depending upon the size of the package – thanks for helping us cover the cost of shipping!
Return Policy
Colors and textures are so different in person than in photos, and we understand that this disconnect may cause disappointment when it comes to online orders.
We are happy to exchange yarn for store credit within 60 days of purchase, provided it meets the following criteria:
- Is accompanied by your receipt
- Has not been purchased at a discount
- Has not been wound or used
- Has been kept in a clean and odor free environment
There are no exchanges or returns on books, patterns, or sale items.
We’ll issue a store credit for the price of the item plus any taxes paid on it, but will not refund or credit shipping fees.

Frequent Buyer Cards
Most of you are familiar with our Frequent Buyer Card program – it’s a card many knitters and crocheters carry in their wallets, on which we initial a dot for each $10 spent at our shop. When it fills, it becomes a $20 gift certificate back to our shop, our way of thanking you for your business. We are now keeping Frequent Buyer’s Cards on file here at the shop, so that we can apply your $20 discount when applicable.
