Show and tell: stripes.

“Show and tell” blog posts are some of my favorites to write, and I’ve been lucky to write lots of them lately. Whenever possible, I take photos of the finished projects that find their way back to the shop, after some talented soul turned them from mere yarn into expertly-handcrafted garment. As I look through … [more]

Elizabeth Zimmermann’s “Baby Surprise Jacket” is a classic pattern and a feat of creative knitted engineering. It’s one that we always have copies of, though when we went to reorder it from Schoolhouse Press, we also noticed a new book on the subject: The Complete Surprise. No surprise, you’ll now find both the single pattern … [more]

Show and tell: summer shawls, part three.

Time for yet another round of summer shawl show and tell! Judie knit this “Lionberry” shawl with Colinette Jitterbug, enlarging it a bit to make the most of her one skein. The Early Fall 2016 issue of Vogue Knitting features profiles of designers Faina Goberstein, Felipe Cavalheiro, and Xandy Peters, known for “Fox Paws” and other patterns with stacked increases and decreases. I always find it interesting to … [more]
