Ready to make your first crochet scarf? Join us to learn how to make either of these two beautiful crochet scarves each made with worsted or aran weight yarn. The patterns can be
made with solid colors, self-striping yarn, stripes, or variegated yarns.

• “Granny’s Jewel Scarf,” by Heather Lodinsky: granny squares
• “The Krèt Scarf,” by DeBrosse: ribbed

Experience needed: Students should be familiar with basic crochet stitches such as chain, single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet.

• Yarn:
  • Katherine made her “Granny’s Jewel Scarf” with Lang Merino + Color, a self-striping wool yarn. Requires 750-850 yards of worsted or aran weight yarn.
  • Katherine is making her “The Krèt Scarf” with Berroco Ultra Alpaca, a wool/alpaca blend in solid colors. Requires 700 yds of worsted or aran weight yarn.
• Crochet hook: use a size that makes a fabric you love, around a size I, J, or K

Join Katherine’s class to knit a top-down colorwork pullover! Choose from fingering weight “saskie” or DK weight “floe jumper,” both designed by thepetiteknitter, knit in the round with seamless construction and an engaging colorwork yoke. Both patterns come in ten adult sizes with customization options for both body length and sleeve length.

Class will cover optional modification to the ribbing, optional short rows to improve shoulder shaping, adjusting fit of sleeves, and blocking.

Experience: Knitters should be comfortable casting on, knitting and purling in the round, working with two colors, counting stitches and rows, and reading a basic pattern chart. Some sweater knitting experience would be helpful, but is not required.

Level up your colorwork skills as you knit Courtney Kelley’s “Fall Sweater” with Anne! Think of it as an opportunity to get better acquainted with steeking. This cozy all-over colorwork pullover is worked in the round from the bottom up, then cut to make openings for the armholes and crewneck. The steek stitches are done in stockinette, alternating colors for vertical, one stitch stripes which create the “line” you will cut on. Designed as a cropped pullover, you may customize the fit by working a longer or shorter body.

We will practice steeking on our swatches to build skills and confidence before cutting into our sweaters. There are extra weeks between the class sessions to provide ample time for knitting.

Experience: Knitters should be comfortable casting on, knitting and purling in the round, working with multiple colors, counting stitches and rows, and reading a pattern chart. Some sweater knitting experience will be helpful, but is not required.

Techniques we will address include: trapping long colorwork floats, creating, reinforcing, and cutting steeks, three needle bindoff, and picking up stitches.

Materials needed:

• Pattern: “Fall Sweater” by Courtney Kelley – available as a free Ravelry download.
• Yarn: we recommend Kelbourne Woolens Andorra, a blend of 60% Merino wool, 20% Highland wool, and 20% mohair. The sweater was designed with a main color and three contrasting colors, one of which is a “pop” color. Please see pattern for specific sizes, lengths, and yardage, and allow extra yardage for a large swatch, which we will cast on and begin knitting in the first class. We suggest purchasing extra yarn if you intend to make the body longer.
• Needles:
  • please bring a US 5 (or the recommended size to get gauge for your yarn) circular or double pointed needles for knitting the swatch. Once you’ve determined your gauge, you’ll need the following:
    • US 3 (3.25 mm) dpns
    • US 3 (3.25 mm) 16″ circular
    • US 3 (3.25 mm) 24″ circular

Learn to knit socks with a simple free pattern, “Rye Light,” by Tin Can Knits. “Rye Light” is knit from the cuff down on double pointed needles and features a simple rib, garter stitch and stockinette leg, and heel flap. In the first class, Anne will guide students through pattern reading, sock construction, and casting on; homework will be to knit through completion of the heel flap. The second class will cover the heel and gusset; completing the foot will be the homework. The final class will cover the decreases and kitchener stitch that close the toe.

Experience: Students should be comfortable knitting and purling; knitting in the round is helpful. Students should plan to complete homework (knitting) between classes.

Materials:

• “Rye Light,” by Tin Can Knits – available as a free download from Ravelry
• Fingering weight sock yarn, 120-480 yards depending on what size you choose. The pattern has multiple sizes ranging from baby to large adult; reference the pattern for detailed yardage info.
• Double pointed needles in US size 1 (2.25mm) and 2 (2.75mm)
• Notions: one stitch marker, tapestry needle for kitchener stitching the toe.

Saturdays: January 11, 18, and 25, 2025; 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.

For beginners: learn to knit in the Continental style. We will use the Churchmouse “Stitch-Sampler Hand Warmers” pattern, which is included in the cost of the class.

In the first session, you’ll learn the long tail cast on and the knit stitch. In the second session, the purl stitch will be introduced as we move from the cuff to the body of the hand-warmer. In the last session, you’ll learn how to bind off and seam your mitts using mattress stitch in both garter and stockinette stitches.

Note: In order to keep moving forward, it is expected that knitting “homework” will be completed prior to the next class meeting.

Materials needed:

• 110 yards of smooth, worsted weight yarn in a light color; we recommend Kelbourne Woolens Germantown
• US size 8 knitting needles
• 1 locking stitch marker
• Tapestry/darning needle for seaming and weaving in ends
