Stranded Colorwork: “Shetland Solstice” Hat

Instructor: Nancy Cavender

Saturdays: March 30, April 13 and 27, 2024; 1:00-2:30 pm.

Learn the basics of stranded colorwork or refine your technique as you knit Gudrun Johnston’s "Shetland Solstice" hat. While designed for Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift, any fingering weight wool will work, and we have many delightful yarns to select from. This 5-color hat is knit in the round with no more than 2 colors in each row. This class will focus on how to knit with 2 colors at once. We will also discuss reading colorwork charts, joining colors, catching floats, and darning in ends. In class, we will practice the German twisted cast on and making pompoms.

Experience: Students should be comfortable casting on, knitting, purling, and working in the round.

Materials needed:

  • "Shetland Solstice" pattern, by Gudrun Johnston, available on Ravelry
