A sumptuous new yarn just found a home here at our shop – meet Neighborhood Fiber Co. Capital Luxury Sport!
Neighborhood Fiber Co. Capital Luxury Sport:
- sport weight
- hand dyed in semisolid and variegated colorways
- 80% organic merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% silk
- 375 yards/4 oz
- $38 each
We’ve been Neighborhood Fiber Co. stockists for a year now, and have seen some lovely projects made with Studio Sock and DK weight Ombré Mini Bundles. Capital Luxury Sport is right in between these two, in terms of gauge, but its super soft fiber content sets it apart.
What to knit with this special stuff? Here are a few pattern ideas!
- “Newhaven,” by Ysolda Teague – gansey inspired hat
- “Two-Color Cotton Cowl,” by Purl Soho – brioche cowl
- “I see spring,” by Joji Locatelli – stockinette pullover with eyelet detail at neck
- “Susquehanna,” by Kristen Jancuk – textured cardigan
- “Alpenglow,” by Andrea Mowry – all-over colorwork pullover
- “Petula Pullover,” by Isabell Kraemer – colorwork yoke pullover
- “Drachenfels,” by Melanie Berg – three color garter stitch shawl with stripes and slipped stitches
Look for Neighborhood Fiber Co. Capital Luxury Sport here at the Hillsborough Yarn Shop! We’re open 11-5:30, Tuesdays-Saturdays; masks required for entry. See you there!

Hi Jasey – Cecily Glowik MacDonald’s “Marigold Cardigan” calls for light fingering/lace weight yarn, and the NFC Capital Luxury Sport is a sport weight, significantly thicker. However, the pattern gauge is 23 sts = 4″, which does seem like a good for for Capital Luxury Sport – it would make for an overall heavier sweater, however. Some folks on Ravelry have used sport and even DK weight yarns for their “Marigold Cardigans,” I’d start by reading through their project notes and looking at photos to see how they came out, if those knitters made any modifications, etc. Hope this helps!

Would this beautiful yarn work for any of the Petite Knit dk weight patterns for children?

Hi Julie – NFC Capital Luxury Sport is a little thinner than DK, so while you can certainly match the gauge of a DK weight pattern, the fabric may be more open and drapey. The best way to find out is by swatching!
