New colors in Berroco Ultra Wool DK.

We recently got a big bundle of new colors from Berroco in yarns across their line of machine-washable wools – Ultra Wool DK, Ultra Wool (worsted weight), and Ultra Wool Chunky. Today, I’m sharing new colors, project ideas, and color combinations in Ultra Wool DK – let’s take a look!

Berroco Ultra Wool DK:

  • DK weight
  • 100% superwash wool
  • 292 yards/100g
  • $12 each

The new colors are shown above, a pastel rainbow that creates exciting new possibilities for color combining across the whole palette.

As I investigated those possibilities, I found myself drawn to three-color combinations, thinking, as I often do, of stranded colorwork.

Here are some DK weight patterns to consider if any of these trios catches your eye:

Sweaters:

Accessories:

When I took these photos, I had in mind that the color on the left would make a good main or background color, and the two colors at right would be contrast colors. These assignments can shift as needed, depending upon the design at hand – happy to help answer questions as you pair these colorways with patterns you love!

Laine Magazine, No. 5.

The other day, we welcomed another beautiful new issue of Laine Magazine.

Laine Magazine is a relatively new publication out of Finland, a knitting and lifestyle magazine with a love of natural fibers and handicraft as its focus.

This issue is only the fifth, but already, it’s developed quite a following, such that we had a waitlist full of knitters to contact as soon as this issue arrived.

Inside Laine, you’ll find a mix of knitting patterns from designers like Thea Colman and Veera Välimäki, articles, recipes, profiles on Ysolda Teague and other fiber artists, and a travel guide to Edinburgh.

Come by the shop to page through Laine and our other books and magazines. We hope you find inspiration here!

New books by Ysolda Teague.

Fyberspates recently started distributing books by Ysolda Teague, a prolific Scottish knitwear designer whose work you’ve at least run into while browsing Ravelry, if you haven’t knit one of her patterns yet. Our latest order from Fyberspates held three of her books, and we’re happy to have them on our shelves.

Teague’s Whimsical Little Knits series feature patterns for a variety of little things, from hats and mitts to stuffed hedgehogs, slippers, and shawls. You’ll likely recognize some of these patterns, for they’re all available individually on Ravelry; two shawls in particular have Ravelry projects numbering in the thousands, “Ishbel” and “Damson.” Still, these petite collections deserve consideration, for the less-familiar patterns are just as intriguing, and there’s nothing quite like a beautiful book one can hold in one’s hands.
