Ombré Mini Bundles from Neighborhood Fiber Co.!

Brand new from Neighborhood Fiber Co. – Ombré Mini Bundles in Studio DK!

Each of these bundles has five mini skeins of NFC Studio DK, an organic superwash merino wool, hand dyed to create a gradient from light to dark. There’s a total of 685 yards, enough for a cowl, shawl, baby sweater, or a couple of hats.

What to do with these tempting bundles? Try Karida Collins’ “Zig,” a chevron cowl made with one Ombré Mini Bundle, or pick up two in different colors for Kristen Schaeffer’s “Multiverse Cowl.” You could also use an Ombré Mini Bundle as the contrast color in a colorwork pattern, selecting another solid DK weight yarn for the main color.

Each NFC Ombré Mini Bundle is $80; come by the shop to see them in person, the colors are even more beautiful! We’re open from 11am – 5:30 pm, Tuesdays – Saturdays, though we will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 for the upcoming holidays. See you at the shop!

New colors in Malabrigo Mecha!

We are thrilled to have brand new colors in Malabrigo Mecha!

Malabrigo Mecha:

  • bulky weight
  • single ply
  • hand-dyed
  • 100% superwash merino wool
  • 131 yards/100 grams
  • $16 each

These six shades are from Malabrigo’s Women on Screen collection, a palette of tonal pastels and low-contrast variegated colorways.

Because it’s so soft and easily machine-washable, Mecha is ideal for making cozy accessories and baby things. Here are a few pattern ideas:

Look for Malabrigo Mecha in our bulky weight section here at the shop! We are also happy to take your order online for local pickup or shipping – just fill out our online order form and we’ll get back with you as soon as possible.

Dream in Color Pop-Up Club: October 2021.

Dream in Color’s Pop Up Club is back! Every month, we’re getting a special new colorway from Dream in Color, a Tucson-based producer of small batch hand-dyed yarns. October’s new limited edition colorway is here while supplies last!

Dream in Color Smooshy Cashmere:

  • fingering weight
  • 70% superwash merino, 20% cashmere, 10% nylon
  • 400 yards/100g
  • $34 each

October’s skeins are a riot of color, a mix of pastels and deep, saturated tones – purple, orange, pink, seafoam, yellow, and more. To my eye, these colors play well with solids in Shibui Silk Cloud, a super soft lace weight mohair/silk blend.

How to combine them? You could work stripes to let the variegated Smooshy Cashmere shine against the contrasting Silk Cloud – check out “Birds of a Feather,” by Andrea Mowry. This asymmetrical triangular shawl would requires 2 skeins Smooshy Cashmere and 2 Silk Cloud ($124 total).

Or – you could hold them together, for a more blended, toned-down effect. Try the “Iris hat,” by Sari Nordlund, a ribbed beanie that requires 1 skein Smooshy Cashmere and 1 Silk Cloud ($62 total).

Look for this Pop-Up Club colorway in the fingering weight section here at our shop! We are now open for drop-in shopping between 11am – 5:30pm, Tuesdays – Saturdays; you can still order online for local pickup or shipping, as well.

Studio Sock + Studio Sampler.

Itching to cast on with our newest arrival, Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Sock? Consider Leslie Anne Robinson’s “Studio Sampler,” an asymmetric triangular shawl.

Robinson’s design moves through garter stitch, stripes, and brioche, keeping things interesting with a variety of stitch patterns and color combinations.

Pick three shades that excite you and have fun watching them interact as you knit – they can be high or low contrast, from the same color family or not. Here are a few combinations I came up with!

Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Sock in Truxton Circle, Joyce Scott, and Gwynn Oak.

Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Sock in Petworth, Oliver, and Hollins Market.

Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Sock in Washington Circle, Amy Sherald, and Cedonia.

Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Sock in Bolton Hill, Lauraville, and Ernest Shaw.

Neighborhood Fiber Co. Studio Sock in Reservoir Hill, Ernest Shawl, and Hollins Market.

Koigu Collector’s Club: Space Exploration.

The Koigu Collector’s Club continues! Each month, we’ll receive 21 skeins of KPPPM in a limited edition color dyed especially for a select group of local yarn stores that carry Koigu.

Koigu KPPPM:

  • fingering weight
  • hand dyed, variegated
  • 100% superwash merino wool
  • 175 yards/50 g
  • $15.50 each

This month’s limited edition color is Space Exploration, a highly variegated mix of black, white, and gray. Anne, who loves neutrals, was drawn to it, and pointed out how nicely it pairs with Malabrigo Mechita in Gris.

Consider holding Mechita and KPPPM together in Tif Neilan’s “Moon Link Cowl,” a bandana shaped accessory that slips over the head like a cozy cowl.

Another pattern idea – Noma Ndlovu’s “Nobomi Shawl,” an asymmetric triangle worked from the widest end to the narrowest point, decreasing all the way. I like Kelbourne Woolens Perennial as a contrast color, though there are many other options in our fingering weight section here at the shop – come by to browse between 11:00 am – 5:30 pm, Tuesdays – Saturdays!

Dream in Color Pop-Up Club: September 2021.

Dream in Color’s Pop Up Club is back! Every month, we’re getting a special new colorway from Dream in Color, a Tucson-based producer of small batch hand-dyed yarns. September’s new limited edition colorway is here while supplies last!

Dream in Color Smooshy Cashmere:

  • fingering weight
  • 70% superwash merino, 20% cashmere, 10% nylon
  • 400 yards/100g
  • $34 each

This September 2021 colorway is full of rich color, from blue, teal, and purple to rust, gold, and green. Each skein is unique!

What to make with these special skeins? Special socks come to mind; check out Dawn Henderson’s “Block Party Socks” and “Bonfire Socks,” Noma Ndlovu’s “Little Boxes Socks,” or for something simple, Tin Can Knits’ “Rye Light.”

Look for this Pop-Up Club colorway in the fingering weight section here at our shop, and get a free Dream in Color bag tag with your purchase of Smooshy Cashmere! We are now open for drop-in shopping between 11am – 5:30pm, Tuesdays – Saturdays; you can still order online for local pickup or shipping, as well.

New colors in Malabrigo Sock!

This week brought us 15 new colors in Malabrigo Sock!

Malabrigo Sock:

  • light fingering weight
  • hand dyed, variegated and semi-solid colorways
  • 100% superwash merino wool
  • 440 yards/100g
  • $20 each

This is Malabrigo’s new Encantados collection, unique hand dyed colorways inspired by fairytales and children’s stories.

I’ve arranged these shades in coordinating trios, thinking of Malabrigo’s popular “Temperance Shawl,” but there are so many other ways of combining these shades – it’s a rich palette, full of possibilities!

You may recognize this last combination, Jasmine, Gingy, and Myths – they were premiered earlier in the year, and you can see them knit into a “Temperance Shawl” below.

Want to knit a “Temperance Shawl” of your own? Order online for local pickup or USPS Priority Mail shipping, or swing by the shop between 11:00 am – 5:30 pm, Tuesdays – Saturdays!

Dream in Color Pop-Up Club: May 2021.

Dream in Color’s Pop Up Club is back! Every month, we’re getting a special new colorway from Dream in Color, a Tucson-based producer of small batch hand-dyed yarns. May’s new limited edition colorway is here while supplies last!

Dream in Color Smooshy Cashmere:

  • fingering weight
  • 70% superwash merino, 20% cashmere, 10% nylon
  • 400 yards/100g
  • $34 each

This month, dyer Veronica was inspired by photos of ocean kelp forests, and those vibrant colors are beautifully reflected in these skeins – saturated aqua with streaks of cobalt and olive green.

As I was unpacking these vibrant skeins, I noticed how well they played with these skeins of Lady Dye Superwash Fingering and Malabrigo Sock – these three would make a striking “Temperance Shawl,” or a “Free Your Fade,” by Andrea Mowry!

Get in touch if you’d like to place an order – we can ship these pretty skeins directly to you or hold your purchase here for pickup while our storefront remains closed to walk-ins!

Malabrigo Sock + Temperance Shawl.

We’re delighted to have three new shades of Malabrigo Sock, just in time for Malabrigo’s 2021 KAL!

Malabrigo Sock:

  • light fingering weight
  • hand dyed, variegated and semi-solid colorways
  • 100% superwash merino wool
  • 440 yards/100g
  • $19.50 each

The “Temperance Shawl” above is knit with these 3 new shades, Gingy, Myths, and Jasmine. The pattern is available as a free download from Ravelry, and the knit-along starts on April 1 – read more about it on the Malabrigo blog.

I love the warm, muted quality of these three shades, but we’ve got other interesting combinations here in the Malabrigo Sock cubby – can’t wait to see what folks come up with!

Order online for local pickup or USPS Priority Mail shipping. Though we’re still closed to walk-in visits, we’re happy to send more photos and answer any questions you may have as you plan your project!

Hello, Heather’s Heathers.

We’ve got some of Ewe Ewe’s new Heather’s Heathers!

Ewe Ewe Heather’s Heathers:

  • worsted weight
  • heathered colors
  • 100% superwash merino
  • 95 yards/50 g
  • $10 each

These new shades are variations on Ewe Ewe’s classic solids, with depth of color coming from gray fiber blended into the white base yarn. The difference between the heathers and solids is especially striking when they’re sitting next to their Wooly Worsted cousins.

Washable worsted weight yarn like Heather’s Heathers is useful for so many kinds of projects – hard-wearing hats and mittens, slipper socks, blankets, baby things, and so on. Five colors is exactly what’s needed for Ann Weaver’s “Yipes Stripes Cowl” – check out some more color combinations in Wooly Worsted here on our blog!

Order online for local pickup or shipping – thanks for all your support!
