Shibui Sample of the Month: Stoa.

March is here, and with it, a new Shibui Sample of the Month! We offer a 10% discount on Shibui yarn purchased for our featured sample until the end of the month.

This month’s sample is Anne Ginger’s “Stoa,” a flared ribbed scarf. The pattern is available for free when you buy Shibui Echo here at our shop.

“Stoa” is knit with Shibui Echo, a DK weight blend of 48% fine merino wool and 52% silk noil, where each ply is only one of those fibers. The two strands of silk noil stand out against the merino for a slightly marled look, just a bit of texture in the knit fabric.

Shibui Sample of the Month: Scroll.

February is here, and with it, a new Shibui Sample of the Month! We offer a 10% discount on the Shibui yarn used in our featured sample til the end of the month.

This month, Shibui sent us Scott Rohr’s “Scroll,” a lightweight scarf knit with Shibui Pebble and Silk Cloud held together intermittently for a transparent effect.

Short rows create a curved chevron running down the center of the scarf, which is worked lengthwise.

The pattern is free when you purchase Shibui yarns from us to make it. We’ll have “Scroll” on display through February 26th – visit us before then to get Shibui Pebble and Silk Cloud at 10% off to make one of your own!

January’s sample is “Virga,” by Jennifer Miller Comstock, an airy cardigan with voluminous sleeves and luxurious drape.

It’s knit with two strands of yarn held together throughout, the lustrous Shibui Lunar and fuzzy Tweed Silk Cloud. The combination is exquisite – come by soon to touch it for yourself!

Brooklyn Tweed and Shibui Samples of the Month!

December is here, and with it, new featured samples from Brooklyn Tweed and Shibui!

Our Brooklyn Tweed Sample of the Month is Jared Flood’s “Umaro,” an impressive lace and cable blanket knit with two strands of BT Quarry held together.

Quarry is Brooklyn Tweed’s heaviest yarn, a bulky weight, woolen-spun Targhee-Columbia wool. Each plump 100 gram skein boasts 200 yards, quite a bit for a yarn that knits up at 3-3.5 stitches per inch. It’s what our friend Emily used for her own “Umaro” blanket, below – she brought it in this week for show and tell, and reports that she snuggles underneath it on the couch with her kids all the time. A success!

Our Shibui Sample of the Month is “sequences,” by Lori Versaci, knit with Shibui Drift.

Drift is a treat to work with, a luxurious worsted weight blend of merino and cashmere.

Shibui Sample of the Month: Sandoval Hat.

November is here, and with it, a new Shibui Sample of the Month! We offer a 10% discount on Shibui yarn purchased for our featured sample until the end of the month.

Our current Shibui Sample of the Month was knit by one of our very own teachers – Marsha made this “Sandoval Hat” as a sample for a recent class on the subject. It takes 2 skeins of Shibui Drift, a luscious blend of merino and cashmere.

Below is a bit of show and tell – one of Marsha’s students, Jill, completed her “Sandoval Hat” and immediately cast on for another.

Drift is a treat to work with, and we’re offering it at 10% off all month long. Look for Drift in our worsted weight section here at the shop!

Shibui Sample of the Month: “Sakasama Jacket.”

October is here, and with it, a new Shibui Sample of the Month! We offer a 10% discount on Shibui yarn purchased for our featured sample til the end of the month.

October’s sample is the “Sakasama Jacket,” by Olga Buraya-Kefelian, a versatile garment that can be worn upside-down or right-side up. It’s knit with two strands of yarn held together throughout – the tweedy Shibui Pebble and fuzzy Silk Cloud.

This particular sample combines a blue-gray and a dark blue, for a unique marled fabric whose color shifts depending on the light – it’s tricky to photograph, and far more beautiful in person.

Shibui Sample of the Month: Lyon.

September is here, and with it, a new Shibui Sample of the Month! We offer a 10% discount on Shibui yarn purchased for our featured sample til the end of the month.

This month’s sample is “Lyon,” a versatile poncho knit with Shibui Pebble. Pebble is a lace weight blend of 48% recycled silk, 36% wool, and 16% cashmere, a carefully crafted blend of fibers that is soft and incredibly lightweight. Each of Pebble’s three plies is made of a separate fiber, so that you can see how each one takes the dye somewhat differently.

Shibui Sample of the Month: Graphique.

August is here, and with it, a new Shibui Sample of the Month! We offer a 10% discount on Shibui yarn purchased for our featured sample til the end of the month.

This month’s sample is “Graphique,” a small striped kerchief knit with Shibui Fern. It’s worked in the round, from the center out, in a stripe pattern that makes concentric squares.

Fern is a sport weight organic cotton, with 232 yards on each 50 gram skein. Two skeins is plenty for this little project – just one in each color. Which two would you choose for a “Graphique” kerchief? It looks quite classic in this high-contrast combination, but I’d be interested to see a more subtle version, too.

Shibui Sample of the Month: Spectrum.

Happy to report that we’ve received a new Shibui Sample of the Month! We usually offer a 10% discount on Shibui yarns featured in our monthly sample, but during July, everything is 15% off – even better!

This month’s featured sample is “Spectrum,” by Shellie Anderson, a rectangular wrap with sheer stripes. The pattern is free when you purchase Shibui yarns for the project here at our shop. It offers instruction for a scarf size, as well, if it’s a slimmer accessory you’re after.

Two Shibui yarns are paired for this design: Rain, a dk weight cotton, and Silk Cloud, Shibui’s signature lace weight blend of mohair and silk.

Shibui Sample of the Month: Gradient.

June is here, and with it, a new Shibui Sample of the Month! Shibui sends us a new sample to share with you every month, and we offer a 10% discount on Shibui yarn purchased for that featured sample while it’s here.

June’s Shibui Sample of the Month is “Gradient,” knit with four shades of Shibui Silk Cloud, a lace weight blend of silk and mohair. The pattern is free when you purchase the yarn from our shop.

In the spirit of the Shibui Mix concept, which encourages the combining of Shibui yarns two or three strands at a time, “Gradient” is worked with three strands of Silk Cloud held together. Periodically, one of those three strands is switched out for a different color, which makes a gentle transition from one color to the next.

Here are a few color combinations I came up with, but there are so many more possibilities – we have over 25 shades of Silk Cloud in stock!
