Magnússon is a designer known for putting a new spin on Icelandic knitting traditions with her patterns and books, and for her passionate knowledge of Iceland, where she lives and offers guided hiking and knitting tours.

Lovers of stranded colorwork will find inspiration in this little collection, which includes a tam, a pair of mittens, a shawl, a sweater, and a blanket, all inspired by the moss, lichen, and other tiny plants of Iceland.

Dee Hardwicke is an artist and designer who works in multiple media, including chinaware, mosaics, stationery, and knitting. No matter the mode or material, Hardwicke’s work is colorful, and reflects her great love of the British landscape.

All of these patterns all call for MDK’s own yarn, which we don’t have on our shelves, but Brooklyn Tweed Arbor is a lovely substitute, and we have dozens of colors!

We still have a few copies of Hardwicke’s gorgeous book The Knitted Fabric, published last winter by Laine – pick it up if this Field Guide whets your appetite!

Designer Cecelia Campochiaro is back for her second Field Guide, focusing this time on Marls.

“Marling” is what we call it when two or more strands of yarn are worked together. You can use it to achieve unique fiber blends, textures, and, most fun of all – color combinations.

Campochiaro has filled this little booklet with five patterns for marling – some accessories, a sweater knit side to side, and the aptly named “Color Explosion Throw.” We spotted one of our yarns, Isager Tvinni, among these projects, and we’re happy to help you find appropriate substitutes for the others.
