Arne & Carlos are known for their colorful, richly patterned designs, which bring a playful sensibility to Norwegian knitting traditions.

All four of the patterns in this Field Guide feature stranded colorwork, clearly a favorite technique of Arne & Carlos. Ease into it with a hat or neck warmer, embellish your mittens with embroidery, or dive into a pullover for a cozy winter-long project.

MDK’s series of Field Guides are pocket-sized booklets focused on a particular theme, knitting technique, or designer. This newest Field Guide is an introduction to brioche, featuring designs by master of the technique, Nancy Marchant – let’s take a look inside!

Brioche is a dimensional stitch pattern often worked in two colors, which creates a bouncy, reversible fabric. Marchant’s “Cushiest Cowl” is a perfect introduction to the basics of 2-color brioche, and the patterns that follow build on these skills.

Most of these patterns call for MDK’s new yarn, which we don’t have on our shelves, though our worsted weight section is full of lovely substitutes. Think Brooklyn Tweed Tones, Shelter or Ranch 02, Kelbourne Woolens Germantown, and Malabrigo Rios.

MDK Field Guide No. 20 features patterns by Erika Knight, a British knit and crochet designer with a taste for accessible yet enticing projects. A patchwork blanket, an entrelac tote, a balaclava, a textured scarf, and a boxy pullover make up this collection – a lot of variety in one little book!

Designer Cecelia Campochiaro is back for her second Field Guide, focusing this time on Marls.

“Marling” is what we call it when two or more strands of yarn are worked together. You can use it to achieve unique fiber blends, textures, and, most fun of all – color combinations.

Campochiaro has filled this little booklet with five patterns for marling – some accessories, a sweater knit side to side, and the aptly named “Color Explosion Throw.” We spotted one of our yarns, Isager Tvinni, among these projects, and we’re happy to help you find appropriate substitutes for the others.

The seventeenth installment of the Modern Daily Knitting Field Guide series is here!

MDK’s series of Field Guides are pocket-sized booklets focused on a particular theme, knitting technique, or designer. This newest Field Guide showcases designs by Mary Jane Mucklestone – let’s take a look inside!

All of the patterns in this collection are knit with Ístex Léttlopi, a classic Icelandic wool with 109 yards/50 g, $5.50 each. While it’s not a yarn we normally carry, we can get it for you through Berroco’s DropShip program – order from us, and Berroco will ship it directly to you. The price for shipping is just $7, and the caveat is that Berroco DropShip sales are final, no returns or exchanges. Léttlopi is a yarn we’ve often wondered about carrying here at the shop, so we’re looking forward to your feedback!
