Knitscene.

The Spring 2015 issue of Knitscene is here!

This issue arrived at the shop on one of the coldest days this winter, giving us plenty of warm-weather projects to look forward to.

This cabled tee is knit in Berroco Maya, a lofty blend of cotton and alpaca, and the lightweight pullover below uses two shades of Malabrigo Lace.

Along with patterns for tanks, tees, shawls and other accessories, there’s an article on knitting pockets–an easy way to customize a sweater.

Knitscene and knit.purl.

We’ve been getting so many new magazines this month, I can hardly keep up!

DSCN3692

First up, Knitscene, always a hot commodity here at the shop. This issue has lots of familiar yarns inside, from Shibui Cima to Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift.

DSCN3693

DSCN3694

I also spotted Shetland Spindrift in the latest issue of knit.purl, which used to be called knit.wear–another favorite magazine around here.

DSCN3624

DSCN3630

This issue of knit.purl is full of the wearable modern shapes and interesting knits that knit.wear was known for.

KnitScene.

We’ve just received another new magazine: KnitScene’s Fall 2014 issue is here!

DSCN3196

This issue focuses on texture patterns, tweeds, and scarves of all kinds–the cozy stuff of Fall knitting.

Familiar yarns always catch my attention as I’m flipping through a new magazine. Hey there, Savannah, Shetland Spindrift, and Pebble.

Knitscene Accessories.

Yet another new magazine is here: Knitscene Accessories 2014!

DSCN3015

This annual special issue is packed with patterns and tutorials for summertime stitching, when small projects feel just right. Here’s a cowl knit in Shibui Cima, and a scarf knit in Schoppel-Wolle Zauberball.

DSCN3021

DSCN3018

There are plenty of pleasing patterns in this issue, but I’m most impressed by the articles, which teach how to cable without a cable needle, convert top-down sock patterns to toe-up and vice versa, and double-knit.

KnitScene.

The Summer 2014 issue of KnitScene is here!

DSCN2836

Flipping through this issue, Anne and I were struck by how many of these garments are knit in fine gauge yarns, from sport weight down to lace weight.

DSCN2838

DSCN2842

Though fine gauge sweaters may take longer to knit than their heavier counterparts in worsted, aran, or bulky weight, they are the answer to wearable knits in warm weather, along with openwork and cool plant fibers.

Knitscene.

The Spring issue of Knitscene is here, to tempt us with warm-weather knitting just when winter is at its coldest.

DSCN2439

Inside this issue, you’ll find patterns for garments and accessories, along with a helpful article on color theory.

DSCN2442

DSCN2440

A few familiar yarns are shown, too–here are Cascade Ultra Pima, Shibui Cima, and Fibre Company Meadow knit up into lightweight tanks.

Look for Knitscene on the teacart in the front room of the shop, among the latest books and magazines. See you there!

KnitScene.

The Fall 2013 issue of KnitScene is here!

DSCN1645

There are many tempting projects within: plenty of cardigans and pullovers, and a nice selection of shawls, hats, mitts, and other accessories. KnitScene always has a tutorial or two showing specific techniques, and this time it’s all about incorporating chevron stripes into your knitting.

DSCN1648

I recognized some familiar yarns in this issue, too; this lacy 2-color shawl is made in the dk weight Malabrigo Silky Merino.

DSCN1646

DSCN1647

The “Penny Candy” cardigan calls for Fibre Company Acadia, a dk weight blend of merino wool, alpaca, and silk. It looks like a simple, wearable knit, mostly reverse stockinette fabric with a bit of eyelet patterning along the bottom edge, which gives the yarn a chance to shine. Acadia is slightly textured and has a tweedy quality because of the silk slubs in the yarn that take the dye differently from the wool and alpaca.

Creative Knitting and KnitScene Accessories.

Two new magazines have arrived in the last week or so: Creative Knitting and KnitScene Accessories.

DSCN1504

DSCN1517

I was particularly impressed with this issue of KnitScene Accessories, which is full of patterns for hats, scarves, shawls, cowls, fingerless mitts, and the like.

DSCN1520

DSCN1518

DSCN1521

KnitScene always offers tutorials on unfamiliar techniques along with their patterns, and this issue’s highlighted techniques are knitweaving and latvian braids, two intriguing colorwork techniques.

We have only a few copies left of KnitScene Accessories, so hurry in if you’d like to make one yours. See you at the shop!

KnitScene.

It’s been a new magazine kind of week here at the Hillsborough Yarn Shop. The latest: Knitscene, Spring 2013. With 70 degree weather last week and snow yesterday morning, the current season is a bit unclear. Spring? Winter? We’re always up for new knitting magazines, though, whatever season it claims to be.

DSCN0951

Inside this issue of KnitScene, you’ll find the usual mix of garments and accessories, along with a tutorial on all things i-cord.

DSCN0957

DSCN0955

I also spotted garments made in Malabrigo Silky Merino and Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool, two silk/wool blend yarns that can be found at the shop.

You’ll find KnitScene on the teacart, surrounded by the latest in knitting and crochet magazines and books. See you at the shop!

KnitScene and Jane Austen Knits.

Two new magazines came in this week: KnitScene and Jane Austen Knits, both of which are full of patterns for sweaters and accessories–plenty to keep your needles busy this fall and winter.

I was pleased to see that KnitScene profiles one of our favorites in this issue: Swans Island, a small company in Maine that produces organic, naturally dyed merino yarns.

For one way to make use of Swans Island’s Organic Merino Fingering, look no further than Jane Austen Knits.

(If that pattern doesn’t appeal, let me pull out our binder of Swans Island patterns for you–there are so many good ways to use this yarn!)

Come by the shop to get the newest fall and winter issues of your favorite knitting and crochet magazines, where you’ll find them on the teacart and the magazine rack. See you there!
