Vogue Knitting.

The Early Fall 2015 issue of Vogue Knitting has arrived here at the shop, right in the middle of a heat wave that makes “Early Fall” seem particularly far away.

This issue has plenty of patterns to fuel your cold-weather knitting fantasies: cabled cowls and mitts, classic colorwork, textured sweaters, and a collection of cardigans from independent knitwear designers, the likes of Veera Välimäki and Amy Christoffers.

Amy Christoffers’ design is a cardigan knit in Berroco Maya, a cotton and alpaca blend chainette yarn, lightweight enough to pull on in chilly air-conditioning during the warmer months.

There’s some good reading material in this issue, too. Meg Swansen’s column shows how to do a continuous border on a cardigan, and another article offers tips for faster knitting.

Come by the shop to pick up a copy of Vogue Knitting, and enjoy our air-conditioning while you plan your next project!

New colors in Modern Cotton.

Berroco has dreamed up a few new colors for their Modern Cotton yarn, filling out their palette of crayon-bright colors with some more subdued hues.

Berroco Modern Cotton is a worsted weight blend of cotton and rayon, and since it’s arrival last spring, it’s become a staple here at the Hillsborough Yarn Shop.

Smooth, soft to the touch, economical, and machine-washable, Modern Cotton has been embraced by knitters and crocheters alike.

It’s perfect for baby sweaters, blankets, and the like, but just as well-suited to grown-up garments like the ones you’ll find in Berroco’s new booklet: #358, Modern Cotton Women.

Last year, designer Amy Christoffers took over Norah Gaughan’s position as Design Director for Berroco, and this collection has a distinct Christoffers look to my eye.

Christoffers seems to specialize in casual, wearable garments, especially those decorated in texture patterns and small lace motifs.

Look for Berroco Modern Cotton in the worsted weight section here at the shop; you’ll find this booklet tucked in the cubby with the yarn. See you there!

New American Knits.

Meet the newest book to arrive on our teacart: Amy Christoffers’ New American Knits.

DSCN3154

Inspired by American artists like Georgia O’Keefe, Richard Serra, and Jasper Johns, Christoffers has designed a collection of sweaters and accessories to knit and wear.

The wearability of these garments was clearly first and foremost in Christoffers’ mind; they all look like wardrobe staples, comfortable and timeless.

Many of these designs are made in yarns we carry at the shop, favorites, no less–the likes of Swans Island Organic Merino Worsted, Fibre Company Acadia and Savannah, Berroco Ultra Alpaca, and Sincere Sheep Equity Sport.
