Texture and Lace Pullover: Kate Gagnon Osborn’s “Eyre”
Instructor: Nancy Cavender
Saturdays: April 8, 22, May 13, 27, June 10, 1:00-2:30pm.
Join Nancy in knitting "Eyre," a texture and lace pullover designed by Kate Gagnon Osborn for Kelbourne Woolens Cricket. The body and sleeves are worked separately in the round from the bottom up, then joined for working the modern lace yoke in the round to the neck edge. "Eyre" is designed to fit with 6-8" of positive ease, so choose a size larger than your chest measurement that will work for you. Nancy will guide you through the creation of your own "Eyre" sweater, covering gauge and fit, pattern reading, the lace stitch pattern, short rows, and finishing. Note: the lace pattern is written out, it is not charted.
Experience: Students should be comfortable casting on and binding off, knitting and purling in the round, and doing basic increases and decreases. Some experience with sweater knitting will be helpful, but not required.
Materials needed:
- Pattern: "Eyre," by Kate Gagnon Osborn, available as a Ravelry In-Store Pattern sale here at the shop.
- Yarn: 4 to 5 skeins Kelbourne Woolens Cricket or other yarn that matches suggested gauge of 24 sts = 4". Please see pattern for specific sizes and yardage, and select your yarn and color well in advance of class so we can be sure to have the quantity you need!
- Needles: please come to class having swatched to determine your gauge; we'll provide swatching instructions when you sign up for class. Once you've picked a needle size that gives you gauge, you'll need the following:
- gauge-size and below gauge-size circular needles in 16" and 32" lengths
- gauge-size and below gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences (i.e. double points or long circular needles if you prefer magic loop)
- Bring to first class: Your knitted and blocked swatch AND some scrap yarn (preferably DK or worsted weight in a solid, light color) and an appropriate needle (US 6-8) so we can practice short rows.
All materials available to purchase here at the shop.
