Knit a “Longline Cardigan,” by Joji Locatelli

Instructor: Ociane Canadas

Saturdays: January 17th, January 31st, February 21st, and March 14th, 2026; 1:00 - 3:00 pm

Joji Locatelli's "Longline Cardigan" is timeless, a simple, smart cardigan that can be dressed up or down. Whether you knit it in a smooth solid color, a tweedy single ply, or a hand-dyed wool, this is the perfect project to show off a beautiful yarn you love.

The pattern starts with the back of the collar and shoulders, then you will knit parts of both fronts until the armholes. The pieces are then joined in the round and the cardigan is knit to your desired length. Finally, stitches are picked up at the armholes and the sleeves are knit from the shoulder to the wrist. The pattern uses a classic K1P1 rib for the collar and cuffs, but a twisted rib can also be used for a neat and stretchier effect. The cardigan ends in a traditional bind off, but for adventurous knitters, Oci recommends a stretchy twisted bind-off that gives a professional and stylish finish.

In this class, Oci will walk you through picking the right size, the provisional cast on, short rows, picking up stitches for the sleeves, and for those who wish, a lovely twisted bind off.

Please come to the first class with a blocked gauge swatch. Use the larger needles to cast on 30 stitches and knit in stockinette to a length of at least 3 inches. Please block your swatch gently. This is essential to pick the right size of cardigan, and to adjust needle sizes if needed, to make a beautiful, elastic fabric.

Experience: This project is recommended for intermediate to advanced knitters, though a confident, adventurous beginner can succeed too. Students should be comfortable casting on, knitting and purling and should know how to knit in the round.
