Dip stitch stripes: Isabell Kraemer’s “Heimathafen”

Join Anne's class to make a beautiful two-color sweater, "Heimathafen," by Isabell Kraemer. This seamless top-down pullover is decorated with dip stitch colorwork stripes, highlighting the circular yoke. Beginning at the neck, you'll use short rows to create a higher back neck, then knit the yoke in the round to sleeve separation. Sleeve stitches are placed on hold to then knit the body in the round, followed by the sleeves. Those are 7/8 length, though the pattern is easily modified - just make sure you round up on yardage if you plan to lengthen sleeves or body.
Anne will teach German short rows, backwards loop cast-on, cable cast-on, grafting I-cord bind-off in the round, and the Dip3b stitch. There are great tutorials included with the pattern as well.
Experience: Students should be comfortable casting on, knitting stripes, and working in the round. Sweater knitting experience will be helpful.
Materials needed:
- Pattern: "Heimathafen," by Isabell Kraemer, available to purchase from Ravelry
- Yarn: "Heimathafen" is knit with fingering weight yarn, 870 - 1557 yds for the main color and 181 - 339 yds for the contrast color; see pattern for detailed size/yardage info
- We recommend Harrisville Designs Shetland, Kelbourne Woolens Camper, Retrosaria Rosa Pomar Mondim, or for an animal/plant fiber blend, Isager Merilin
- Come by the shop to browse all of these options and more - we're happy to help find just the right yarn for your project, and calculate yardage for your size!
- Needles:
- Circular needles: US 2.5 (3.0 mm) and US 3 (3.25 mm) in 16" and 32". You'll use 16" needles for neck cast-on, body and sleeve ribbing, and 32" for body (and sleeves, if using Magic Loop technique).
- Please note: the gauge is 24 stitches x 35 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch, after blocking. You may need to go up or down a needle size to match the pattern gauge
- Notions: stitch markers, needle for weaving in ends, waste yarn or Knitting Barber Cords
